Transparency. In order to make things clear, and in the interest of full disclosure and transparency, we felt it important to let you know exactly who does what, and how things run here, and what can you expect from your time in Valor Pro, and us as staff.
Press and I talk regularly. We have known one another via efeds for almost 15 years. We talk frequently on the phone, and on messenger. We're free with our communication. You say something to he or I, you're saying it to both of us. Expect no secrets, or duplicity. Press is pretty straight forward. You'll figure that out when you chat with him.
Jobs that Hannah does, and character she is immediately responsible for: the Othello Brothers on Twitter, the fed twitter account, Vanessa Byrne, and Brad Stokes, and a plethora of other hilariously useless people who may or may not show up. She handles graphics, (often those are in fact done by John, Elina Cartel - THANK YOU - as a favor to her cause he does better work than she does 9 times out of 10,) but sometimes I do too! I run story, She does upkeep. She posts shows. She writes segments. She writes some matches. She organizes and plays traffic cop.
Jobs that Preston, the Silent partner does: the lions share of show production. He deserves all props. Show booker. Much of what you see written on cards is Preston. His IC staff character is Dugan Callahan, and Richard Swank.
How this game works at Valor: We are very much about competition and quality roleplaying which mostly falls on the handler. That being said, in order for any roleplaying game to be successful, there must be stories that drive that competition and provide context/content for the characters to roleplay with. This will never be an angle fed, although angles will live within the pretext of that competition. Meaning, that in order to push feuds, sometimes there will be ideas floated to work out a match so that the pay off can occur at a later date. Those ideas will be opened to both staff and handlers, bounced around until a resolution can be agreed upon (currently we're planning on creating a writer's room to facilitate this better, ideas on the chat platform? Skype? Discord? Something else?). It's important to remember that just because an idea is suggested, that no one is going to force it. Our job as the staff is to promote and facilitate the overall story of the fed. We are never going to try and bury someone, and it is meant to develop characters and the overall product. Our intention is to draw you deeper into the narrative. It is an invitation, come and play with us.
We'd also like to note that some things will happen on the show that you won't have any idea is coming, because we do promote the thought of organic storytelling. We aren't going to allow anyone to put words in your mouth, but at the same time a backstage/in ring attack from another handler does not require your permission or foreknowledge. It's the job of the handler who receives this attack to formulate a plan and a response. When someone pushes you, push them back. Staff reserves the right to use any character to help build feuds that have already been established. If we reach out, and don't get a response, then we will move forward with what needs to happen to keep a feud fresh. Communicate with us if something happens you don't appreciate, or would like to see happen.
At the end of the day, this is a game. There are going to be winners and losers. These decisions are tough, given the caliber of roleplayers that we currently have. Often time, the decisions are really close, but a decision that leans one way or the other is never meant to bury the person who loses. The fed is like a basket, and each character is a thread that weaves it together. No one thread is more important than the other. Everyone's story deserves to be told, and we are not in the business of snuffing anyone out. If you no show, we will be concerned, but you will be handled with respect in the sense that we aren't going to job you out. Your character on that show will receive just as much action if you had actually roleplayed. Fortunately, we have cultivated a strong handler base here in Valor, and we thank you all for showing up the way that you have. It's been a joy to read, and we really appreciate your efforts.
On the matter of decisions. Man, you guys have made judging really tough. When we are locked in a decision, and the numbers are so close, we know that not everyone can win. Not every match can be a double DQ or count out. In those situations, despite trying to use the rubric, it will more than likely be a gut decision based on the entertainment of the roleplays. In some of those cases, as I'm sure you've already read on previous shows, we'll do our best to come up with a logical reason for it. There are ways to hand out a loss that don't always mean that they were clean, but not necessarily a screw job finish. We are dedicated to getting everyone over the best we can regardless of the win/loss record. Obviously as a handler, a loss can sting, but in character it can be the catalyst for which you create your best work.
The Overall Show: Press takes care of a good bit of the action. If you see the card, and have a suggestion make sure to send it in early. This does not have to be a fully written piece, but the basis of the idea/request, and he will put those finishing touches on it and work it into the show. For segments/promos/or collaborative pieces, keep sending those in as you normally have at the normal RP/Segment deadline.
The shows are set up in cycles that revolve around the PPV's. The PPV's are where the main crux of competition and story lines will see their finish. There will be four episodes of Blitz between each PPV to set up everything that will culminate on the big show. The cycle follows this concept;
Blitz 1: Following a PPV - Aftermath/New Build
Blitz 2: Build
Blitz 3: Build
Blitz 4: Go Home Show to next PPV - Recap/Tie Up/Cliffhanger
PPV: Pay Off for all the hard work.
How Press books these shows is by story line/feud/angle. Sometimes there will be some random matches here and there, but usually there is a purpose for the madness. The idea is that there will be a main feud between handlers, but that doesn't mean that they will always be engaged with one another, or may engage in unconventional ways (Tag match with someone as their partner they normally wouldn't associate with). We like the idea that two people can be engrossed in a feud, but has enough interactions with the rest of the roster that it can foreshadow the feuds to come. There isn't anywhere in the rulebook that says that you can't be embroiled with heat with more than one person, and so we encourage you guys to continue these great collaborative segments that have been churned out thus far.
Finally, the shows themselves are written with wrestling at their center. This is, after all, an e-fed, and wrestling is the one thing that all of your characters have in common. It's one of the few sports entertainment venues that would allow for this style of competitive gaming. We take pride in trying to produce the best product for you, because it's you that feeds the narrative of that product. Press can only write what he has read in the promos for a match, and what is on your bio, so if there is something you see that you don't like, just let us know how you would like for your character to perform. Because of the nature of the sport, injuries happen. It depends on you if you want to work that into your story, but it will be discussed and played with on the show.
And there you have it. This was as much for us as it was for you, to put to paper exactly how everything is laid out, and to peel back the way that we arrive at some of our decisions. We hope you all appreciate this as much as we appreciate all of you for embarking on this journey with us, and we hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
