A broad smile on her face, Dakota sat on the edge of her bed, a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, half drunk in her hand. The rest of the bottle was on her desk, next to a pile of letters, sent by Cross Recoba, during their courting days.
Scrolling through the tweets between them, her smile somehow grew wider as she neared the one where he had asked her to accompany him to the ring at Equinox. She had made no real secret of the fact that she deeply regretted the way their relationship had ended or the fact that, in spite of her meeting a new man, a Doctor no less, that she still had feelings for Cross Recoba, who’s career had hit new heights since their relationship had faltered, while hers seemed to be moving along a damn sight slower than she would have liked.
Now though, it appeared that they could at least be friends and that sat right with her. Of course, this being Dakota Jennings, things had to go wrong, and wrong they did!
“We need to talk, I want to know why you’re still in love with Cross Recoba” had been the text from Andrew, the aforementioned Doctor and that had bought her whole mood down again, as swigged a whole mouthful from the wine glass before refilling it again, her head beginning to feel a little fuzzy. Well, time for some damage control before she was too drunk to damage control!
Sending a tweet to Cross Recoba first, telling him she had changed her mind about Russia, she then lied, explaining that it was due to Andrew wanting to take her out to a restaurant. Well, that should have been it, but Cross replied back in typical fashion, asking her why she wanted hamburgers when she could accompany him and have steak. That stung a little, but it was one Zachariah Krahe that really put the nail in the coffin when he affirmed that age old opinion that you needed to be on the arm of someone like Cross Recoba to get anywhere in the business. Yes, he’d actually been backing her up, but there it was anyway, she would be nothing if not for Cross Recoba. Then of course there was the no respect thing, exactly what had she done to earn the disrespect of Zachariah Krahe? The glass went down a lot easier than before, being refilled again as she typed a vitriolic tweet aimed at Cross, Krahe and weirdly, Valor Pro itself.
Now looking like Will Ferrell with a glass of wine, ugly crying and a little drunk, Dakota threw the phone down onto the bed before drinking the last of her wine, burning her throat as she did so, before falling into a very restless sleep.
Three hours later, she woke up, head pounding and feeling a little sorry for herself. Realising what she had done, she hastily typed an apology of sorts to Valor Pro before contemplating sending a text to Vannah, finally dozing off again, a doozy of a hangover heading her way in the morning, as well as a potentially damaging chat with her current beau, Andrew.
