#ooc This was the second piece that was going to come from Leela and I this week, but after seeing that Poe's handler has had a rough last 24 hours we decided to only post one rp this week. I finished this up hastily a few moments ago and just figured I'd drop it on the CD board.
“She’s not coming inside. She’s not meeting any of you. She’s just picking me up and we’re riding to the airport together. It’s cheaper than taking an Uber to and from for us to just ride together, split the cost of gas, and pay the parking fee for a few days.” He was standing in the foyer of a house that was becoming rather familiar to the fans of Valor Pro Wrestling, that of his mom and dad’s home. A look of disappointment was etched into the faces of both of his parents, who clearly were the sort that dreamed of their child settling down and having children with a nice girl.
Nevermind the fact that Leela was exactly the sort of girl that Danny would have adorned his bedroom wall with as a young teenager had she been wrestling when he was that age. He tried to push those thoughts from his head. Before either of his parents could protest at all, a horn honked from the driveway, saving him by the bell so to speak. With quick hugs to both of them, Danny grabbed onto the handle of his suitcase and quickly began rolling it out of the house, down the walkway, and to the car that had pulled in. As he approached the trunk popped open for him to put his suitcase for storage.
Soon enough he was slinking into the passengers side of the car with a sense of urgency that he was sure she didn’t understand. “Hey, good to see you again. I’m ready, we can go now.” With a bright smile Leela seemed to ignore him as she waved at the two people who were standing on the porch and waving back at her. Naturally, Danny felt like he could die in that moment and was horrified there would a conversation between them for any number of reasons.
Thankfully, she glanced at him and seemed to pick up on his own nervousness and simply shifted the vehicle into reverse and began to back out of the driveway. As it happened Danny offered his own wave of goodbye to his parents before digging into his pocket and retrieving his cell phone. With a few taps of his fingers he was beyond the lock screen and, moments later, was pressing the record button to go live on one of his personal social media accounts.
“Hey everyone, Danny here and I’ve got a special guest for you all today.” Shifting the phone slightly to his left, Leela was brought into view for whoever might be watching. With one hand kept on the steering wheel she waved briefly before returning her hands to ten and two as they began to drive off down the street. After she had greeted the audience, Danny turned the camera back to face him, the nerves that had been present earlier melting away to let his own personality shine through.
“Listen, South Korea, we just wanted to let you know that we’re super excited to be heading your direction and to be able to kick off the main show together. I know you’ve all been sitting back and watching us lately and you’re probably thinking that, on paper, things haven’t gone to well for us, huh?” Off camera, Leela’s voice cuts into the seen with a loud “Booooooo” which brings a smile to his face. “But we’re going to do our best to bring a stop to that for all of you, you know? Because the truth of the matter is that we’re both getting a little bit fed up.”
Affirming his own thoughts with a nod of his head, Danny pressed on to keep the viewers engaged. “Now, I heard what Nova had to say. I know where his focus lies. I know he’s out here making promises all over again, sort of like the promises that he made coming into Blitz Eleven. And I know that he’s probably sitting there hoping that nobody is going to call him out on his bullshit.” A loud slap echoes inside the car as Leela’s hand makes an imprint on his arm, having smacked him for cursing. “Sorry. I meant nonsense. Anyway. That’s who Nova is. He thinks he can say and do whatever he wants to and nobody is going to stand up to him and say enough. Nobody is going to look him in the eye and call him a liar.”
Staring directly into the camera now, Danny points his index finger as though he’s pointing straight at his most bitter rival. “But just like you broke all those promises that you made coming into Blitz, Nova, I’m here to tell you that you’re going to end up looking in the mirror all over again and staring into the face of a man who can’t keep his word. No matter what happens at Blitz Twelve. Win, lose or draw, I’ll be getting back up. I’ll make my flight back home to Dayton. And I’ll be back at the next show all over again.”
Shifting in his seat, Danny pressed on. “I know that has to eat at you, doesn’t it? This whole bada-” Leela cleared her throat from off camera. “This whole tough guy who doesn’t care about the rules schtick that you’ve got going, and all these bold proclamations that you keep making, it has to hurt when it doesn’t really work out the way that you want it to, doesn’t it? To think that in spite of everything, in spite of the fact that you’ll stab someone in the back, in spite of the fact that you say all of these outrageous things, people just laugh and wave their hands dismissively at you.” He let his words hang on the air for a few moments, letting the reality of who Danny saw NovaCaine as fully sink in.
“People like Leela and I are really the future of this business, Nova. You’re the piece of the past that just doesn’t know it’s time for you to go away. It might be mean. It might be cruel. It might not be the politically correct thing to say, but your time has been finished for a while now. Since before you ever decided to sign your name on the dotted line with Valor Pro Wrestling, certainly.” Clicking his tongue, he sighed and felt bad for being as harsh as he was. “I’m blessed to have a great tag team partner this week. She’s the epitome of selflessness, you know? This isn’t what she wants to be doing or where she wants to be. She’s got her sights set on bigger and better things than a tag team match to kick of the show against an old bigot whose life has passed him by, and a mannequin from Hot Topic come to life.”
He glanced over in the direction of his partner briefly before glancing back toward the camera. “I don’t really have anything against you, Poe. And neither does Leela. We don’t really understand why you kept coming back to her in the main event at Blitz Eleven and, truth be told, we both feel a bit bad for you and the situation you find yourself in this week. I hope you know it’s nothing personal. I hope you know both Leela and I want you to be successful in this company and think you’ve got the talent to do so. But this time, this week, we’re making a statement. In part for our own individual careers. In part against the sort of hate speech and sexism that NovaCaine delights and bathes himself in.”
A few more short moments pass quietly before Leela’s voice cuts in. “We’re here, Danny.” And with a nod of his head, he smiled at the camera. “Alright, well, we’ve got a flight to catch. We’ll see you soon, South Korea, and I promise you this is going to be a show you’re never going to forget.”
