No Spoilers Important Announcement
I am writing this to announce my resignation as a moderator of r/ringgenerals . Thank you to everyone who has made my time here memorable. Special recognition must go to my fellow stablemates in the Hue World Order u/levaglosslms and u/colorguardian. Our discussions added greatly to my enjoyment and appreciation of the show, and I can honestly say if it weren’t for you I would not be the Ring Generals mark I am today.
And I am still a mark Despite how things ended up, despite my well documented disappointment with who wound up the “Last Man Standing” when RG concluded, I still love it. Zero regrets here. Even the reactions to the finale provided their own macabre entertainment. That said it is time to move on.
I know I’m not alone in this. The subreddit has lost many other members in the past month. The show is over, after all, and even if the ending wasn’t so universally panned there would have been departures. My exit, though, has a different motivation. Ring Generals has given me the motivation to do what I’ve dreamed about all my life; to enter the arena myself.
I am becoming a professional wrestler.
This is a goal I set for myself a long time ago. One that I would time to time go back to, work on for a bit, and then eventually set aside for reasons that really weren’t very good. But now, I find myself more motivated than ever. Ring Generals had a bad ending; most of us agree. What is at issue is how we respond to it. There is a significant number of us who have abandoned our fandom outright, forgetting about all those wonderful moments RG brought us. Others want to be more proactive, trying to crowdsource an eighth season that can bring the show to a more appropriate conclusion. And while that is an enterprising idea, we all know the logistics involved in getting the cast and creators back to take part in what amounts to a group vanity project are insurmountable. There will never be another match in a Seven Continents Wrestling anywhere outside of the realm of fan-fic. SCW is closed. The Ring Generals story is done.
But what we, as fans, can do is make our own story.
And that’s my plan. To finally take what I have learned about wrestling and apply it to my own life in a way that’s beyond metaphor. To stop being a mark and to join the brotherhood. I’ve always had the means, and now, in what may be the greatest gift Ring Generals has given me, I have the motivation.
“Old Money Archie” is buried.
Long live Archer Yeoman.
