Inside VPW / I By Lola Keenan Start with an idea then transform that idea into a symbol. Fast forward to the moment the doors open and proclaim that this promotion ‘already is’ the ‘latest and greatest’. Claim the greatness of this promotion until the moment comes when mediocrity is attained, the roster is abandoned, and the doors close. Valor Pro Wrestling has discarded with this seemingly ‘standard’ rubric which so many promotions seem to follow. Valor Pro simply opened doors and allowed those curious few an opportunity to attain a new opportunity - the opportunity to make their names known. You see, Valor Pro wrestling wasn’t built to fulfill the needs of the owner, the commentators, or even yours truly. No. Valor Pro Wrestling was created for those often-times unheralded workers who advocate for this sport each and every time they step into the ring. Valor Pro Wrestling was created for the Wrestler. Yes, the wrestlers: The self proclaimed ‘space wizard’ who boasts a kind of narcissism once thought impossible in Brennan Devlin. The cocksure youngster who may or may not be in over his head in Arlo Rosabel. The veteran ready to return to the sport she helped redefine in Roxi Johnson. The man gambling on his return to the ring and an opportunity for redemption in Ace Devereux. And many many more. Valor Pro was created for the wrestlers and its fate will be decided by those who battle beneath the red hot ring lights. Valor Pro will rise with those who push themselves beyond their known limits. The Blitz preview was a show full of highs, but it was not without its lows. Ace Devereux took home the Gladiator Championship, but not before he took a loss at the hands of the one who calls herself ‘Stardust’. Chase Drama and Billy Trauma both put in strong showings, but would both take home losses and question marks. Roxi Johnson would return with a vengeance, but she would see a championship slip narrowly beyond her reach. Arlo Rosabel and Brennan Devlin would put in the fight of the night, but neither would be able to seal the night by attaining the Monarch or Gladiator Championships. Highs and lows. Siberia Zombie and Joel Hawkfield would attempt to kill each other to the ultimate end of abandoning their match and settling for a double count out. Zack Fantana should not go without mentioning, yet, even at his lowest, he still proved that he is a dangerous commodity and should not be taken lightly. Now you must pardon my somber attitude towards these wrestlers. While they did suffer ‘lows’, they all attained the ‘high’ of being part of the first Valor Pro production. They will all go down in these history books as the wrestlers who supported the promotion created for them. Now we’re on the cusp of the first ‘official’ episode of Blitz and if what we saw previously was just a ‘preview’, we must be prepared for the cementing of this brand. This is why the card for Blitz one is excellent in the fact that it simply seeks to debut three and declare two number one contenders. Yes, it’s unfortunate that the two champions will not be performing in the ring, but it certainly doesn’t mean they won’t be seen in Paris. Krähe, Rydell, and Brodie are all unknown commodities and while they might not be involved in the contendership matches, they still have an opportunity to stake claim to their place in line for a shot at the Monarch and Gladiator Championships. This is their opportunity to support Valor Pro by shining brighter than the lights above. Will they? One can only hope. So often these unknowns manage to become forgettable let downs, but on occasion, they can prove to be those who will ultimately take over and become the fact of the promotion. Will one of these competitors mold Valor Pro in their image? We have two matches, two triple threats. Six wrestlers with opportunities which mustn’t be taken for granted. Right now, with their eyes closed, considering the future in the dark cast by their eyelids, do they grasp the opportunity before them? There is one match standing between them and an assured title shot. Devlin, Hawkfield, and Fantana have already proven themselves and are without the unknown ‘surprise’ matches. They know who they must beat to step forward. Who will seize this moment? Similarly - Johnson, Rosabel, and Zombie all face the same opportunity. Any given night, the match can go either way. Who will be the difference maker at Blitz one? I have no answers - only questions. I have no advanced knowledge, only my own opinions. I see, already, in this roster, the potential for greatness. This will not be the opportunity for Valor Pro to become the ‘greatest’. No. Valor Pro is merely the platform. The only ‘greatness’ to be attained is by those in the ring. Those who sweat and bleed to create the foundation for Valor Pro. I have the easiest job in the world - all I have to do is sit and watch Blitz one play out. It will ultimately be all about the wrestlers. Who will dethrone Ace Devereux? Who will dethrone Elina Cartel? Blitz one’s outcomes may just answer those questions. See you there. |
