It should have been time for celebration, and the smile Cosmo put on as he came back to the locker room area after becoming the first ever ELITE FC champion. Camera bulbs had flashed from the time the fight came to a finish from the time Cosmo roamed backstage and all three championship belts was thrust upon him. On the top of his shoulder was the Apex Championship he had carried since January, a championship where he may as well have been the first champion for the promotion. The Internet Championship came next which was draped over his shoulder. Another title in which he defended with everything he had even with an MMA tournament looming. Then, around his waist was the MMA championship he had just won, his own sweat gleaming off of it.
What nobody saw was that his head was absolutely spinning from the night, from the week, from the camp. In all honesty? Nobody should have let Cosmo step into an MMA cage with his plate so full. Nobody saw what toil it took mentally and while Valor raked in the money from having Cosmo as a two sport athlete, it was slowly breaking him down… but he showed no signs of stopping. Nobody would step in for an intervention because he made it all look so easy. From fun rap lyrics as a picture caption to the bravado of holding three championships… who the hell was going to tell him to stop now.
“I… hahaha. I just need a minute guys…” his voice was slurred as he walked away as calmly as he could from the crowd and pushed his way into the locker room. It was Talon Clem who noticed the way Cosmo was walking and talking, the Union GP fighter who had been involved with Cosmo’s camp, and also apart of RAW Athletics.
Cosmo wasn’t sure how he got the titles off of him but they clattered to the floor as he stumbled to the shower and put the water on as cold as it would go and then he toppled head first against the wall, barely catching himself with his hands as he rolled over to a seated position and his head dropped, the cold water pouring over him. Cooper’s head blasted, his ribs ached, and his pride hurt the most. What if he had collapsed in front of the media? He would have been forced to retire on the spot.
When the door opened to the locker room, he tried to push himself up. He didn’t want Riley to see him in this position, he didn’t want anyone to catch him like this. Not now. Not when he had all the momentum in the world.
Talon appeared at the door with a sideways smile as he leaned on the framework of the shower and shook his head. Cosmo held up a hand as if to tell Talon he didn’t need help, but Clem instead walked over and turned the water off and offered him a hand.
“Fuck, nobody can know about this.” Cosmo said up to his sparring partner. He took the hand of Clem who pulled him back up to standing.
“You need a vacation.”
He was right.
