“I don’t wannnnaaaaa’.” The Apex Champion proclaimed as he kicked his legs off the end of the bed and tossed a pillow over his head. Riley Savell, barely clothed as she often was, pulled the pillow back off of his face and crawled to look at him upside down.
“You have to go.” Riley sat up and curled one long leg under the other as she examined Cosmo, who she had gotten up early so they could catch a flight to go see Hallie and Leon Cashmere. “We haven’t even been to see the baby yet.”
“We can just have our own!” Cosmo said playfully as he rolled over to his stomach. It was something he had joked about for a while. As usual, Riley pointed to her ring finger as she backed away as if to say, ‘put a ring on it.’ Cosmo smirked at her and returned a finger, but it was his middle one as she went off to brush her teeth.
Lately the conversations surrounding Cosmo and… whoever he talked to was: What Happens Next?
What happens when his body gives out? What happens if he can’t be ‘The Wrestler’ any longer. Of course Riley was a big part of those plans for the foreseeable future. Something that Cosmo had kept quiet from nearly everyone was that he really wanted to be a gym teacher, and a coach. He thought back to everyone who had impact over him during the crucial moments of his life. Coaches, teachers, they were all one in the same.
“The Uber is coming in like fifteen. Can you at least put on some pants?” Riley called with a toothbrush in her mouth as she put on her clothes.
“First time you’ve ever told me that,” Cosmo volleyed back as he rolled off the bed, knees on the carpet but leaving his head on the mattress as if to get one last bit of rest.
No doubt since his grandmother had been sick, there had been a gaping hole in Cosmo’s life. Many different people had filled that. Riley had been one, until they had their issues and… that one was slowly but surely growing back. Callum had filled that gap as a mentor at one point and time. Cosmo would put him right up there with every influential coach he had ever had.
That’s why it sucked so bad to face him.
“Maybe you can get some advice from Leon?” Riley said as she picked up her bag and Cosmo tossed his single carry-on over his shoulder. He scoffed at her rhetorical question.
“Maybe you can get some advice from Hallie on how to get the baby thing going,” Riley rolled her eyes as they walked out of the hotel room and towards the Uber.
A future. It was something Cosmo Cooper had never prepared for in his entire life. It was always something that would eventually fall into place for a guy like himself.
For a moment, his head swam around with visions of a happy marriage, a kid, he was teaching a gym class. It was so nice, he decided to stay there for a while and forget he distractions of the upcoming match and world around him.
