A date suddenly glitches across a solid black screen..
“8-25-1999”
A female’s scream can be heard as the date fades away slowly. “Based on a true story” scrolls across the empty blackness. The Fury Studios logo then flashes before the opening credits begin for this short film created by Tommy Crimson’s small production company. The dark screen turns slowly to the night sky briefly before the moon takes center stage. The high definition quality can even make out craters. The camera shot then begins to pan away from the moon to show the city of Detroit.
The late nineties were a time of change in this city. An aerial view of the lights throughout glow as the camera draws closer and closer to the earth. The city comes into view more clear with each passing moment. The neighborhood of Wyoming Avenue and Orangelawn Street can be made out now. One of the most dangerous streets in all of America.
A pizzeria sign can be seen flashing on the street. The light flickers from needing more gas added but the owner has little time for such things. The camera shot winds around the brick building to show a back alley. An old rusty dumpster is revealed from behind the building. Something is inside of it causing a real ruckus.
Suddenly the lid flies off the dumpster to reveal two teenagers. They are both dirty and obviously homeless. The boy has long bright red hair while the girl has auburn hair. Her green eyes almost glowing after consuming the pizza from the dumpster. These two savor the taste of the cockroach covered pizza slices. Malnourishment has a real hold on both.
The two thirteen year-olds are Tommy Crimson and Dawn Taylor. Both are orphans and must fend for themselves each and every day. They have been traveling the streets together for three years now after escaping from the city orphanage. The abuse there nearly killed both but they made it out alive.
The street light in the alley illuminates the night so they can feast in a soft glow. Dawn comes out of the dumpster still eating a slice. Crimson piles out right behind her.
These two look out for each other on a daily basis. Neither would have survived this long without the other. Dawn and Tommy lean up against the slimy dumpster to eat while the moon shines overhead.
“That was good. Mine didn’t even have any maggots this time.” Dawn exclaims at Crimson with a real glee throughout her tone.
“I found one on mine. Protein.” Crimson blurts out in response.
Tommy drops his head after finishing the slice of rotten pizza. Dawn looks over at him.
“What’s the matter, Tommy?” Dawn asks with real concern.
Crimson quickly reaches up to wipe off the tears he can feel welling up from deep within.
“My dad killed my mom then tried to burn me alive in the same house. I wish he was dead.” Tommy whispers at Dawn.
She looks at Crimson with an endearing expression across her face. Tommy’s father did kill his mother in front of him then set fire to the house. He tried to kill Tommy, his brother, and burn the evidence of it all. The sadness lingers in the warm August air after Crimson’s comment for some time. Dawn wants to distract him and notices a huge rat out from the dumpster. She picks up a nearby empty liquor bottle then begins to aim. The large rat stops at the brick wall briefly before she throws the bottle! It smashes against the rat before breaking into many shards.
“What are you doing!?” Tommy screams at Dawn after the glass shatters.
Dawn rushes over to the rat and picks up one of the larger shards of glass. She quickly finishes it off with a quick slice. The rat bleeds out of the pavement alongside the dumpster.
“I’m going to make you something.” Dawn whispers as she begins to use the piece of glass to cut open the rat.
She drops the shard then sticks both hands inside the mouse through the slit she cut before. Dawn pulls its insides out while Tommy watches on. She quickly picks up the large piece of glass once again to cut the insides out. Dawn then strings out the insides before reaching over to take the right hand of Crimson. She smears blood on his wrist by accident while tying the rats insides around the wrist of Tommy like a bracelet.
“Now do mine.” Dawn whispers while holding her right wrist up at Tommy.
Crimson takes the remaining insides from Dawn’s left hand and begins to tie them around her wrist. The unnerving scene climaxes with both holding up the gut bracelets.
“We match.” Dawn cheerfully announces.
She then scoots alongside Tommy to sit up against the beat up dumpster once more. Dawn looks up at Crimson, who continues looking away to not show his vulnerability. She uses both of her hands to reach up and turn his head to face her.
“Don’t live in the past. There is no future there. One day… You will be a big deal doing big things, all across the world. There is so much more to life than The Dirty D.” Dawn explains in a soft tone.
Crimson nods his head to agree before standing up. A random Limp Bizkit song can be heard in the background from the pizzeria. Terrible music sells big in 1999. Tommy helps Dawn to her feet before taking her hand in his. They walk down the alley with the bracelets sticking together by a single strand of slime.
The two teenagers only have each other in this extremely dangerous environment. Gang violence has engulfed the entire city. The camera follows the two down the street until they come up on a large city storm drain. A black van with its headlights off circles the street twice. Tommy and Dawn hurry toward the storm drain to find a place to rest.
The van parks and they realize it could be a gang looking for rivals. They go down into the storm drain to find a small bridge to sleep beneath. They keep warm with old rags they hid beneath the bridge weeks ago while living here. The rags were taken from abandoned houses and dumpsters but does the trick.
The camera shot from overhead shows the time lapse from night to morning in around a minute. The sun comes up to shine beneath the bridge. The Earth’s star shines into the green eyes of Dawn, who wakes up. She looks over at Crimson before standing up. Tommy feels the rags shift, which leads him to also come alive.
“It’s so early.” Crimson calls out.
“Yes, it is. We need to find a better place to hide.” Dawn replies.
Crimson nods to agree before standing up. They leave the rags and begin to climb up the side of the large city drain. The bank is steep but they make it up holding hands. Flies have already began to blow around the bracelets they both still wear proudly. The pair tops the hill and end up on the street in the early morning hours. Dawn turns around to face Crimson at the top.
“I love you, Tommy. We should always stick together because I don’t believe we will make it otherwise.” Dawn almost whispers at Crimson directly.
“I... I Love you too. We will always be together if I have anything to say about it. You have been nicer to me than anyone ever has. Nothing can keep us apart, Dawn…” Tommy explains in detail to show his true feelings.
Suddenly the black van from earlier speeds up alongside the two teenagers. The side door slides open and two men wearing ski masks leaps out! They take hold of Dawn, who continues to hold on to Tommy’s right hand. The two large men pull her into the van while Crimson holds on for dear life. A third man comes out of the van to kick Tommy directly in the face! The shot sends him back with Dawn ripping his bracelet off completely as she’s dragged into the van. It speeds off as the door slides shut to leave Crimson on the sidewalk with a bloody face.
“No!” Tommy screams while holding out his right hand toward the fleeing van.
Crimson lies on the pavement completely helpless. He reaches out and realizes that she’s been kidnapped in broad daylight. Tommy looks around to realize that no one seems to mind or care what has transpired. Crimson shakes his head to regain his bearings before getting to his feet. In a complete daze, he begins to walk across the street toward a building.
“Motor City Wrestling Gym” is written across the neon sign. The large sign hangs on the side of the building but Crimson knows they have a phone. Walking into this building would change his life forever as he desperately tries to save his one true love.
The camera view begins to glitch and change as Crimson stumbles into the doorway. The scene completely fades to black briefly before his signature inverted cross comes to life across the screen.
The film fades away to give way to the present day, August, 22, 2019. The scene shows a row of rented white mercedes work vans. The overhead camera angle reveals the vans to be near Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England. The vans are being rented by Fury Studios for the week. Honor Bound is mere days away now.
The vans are all parked alongside one another a good distance away from the actual Stonehenge monuments. The first vans hatch doors swing open suddenly. Eddie Murder, Moderator of the NerdSquad portion of Fury Studios emerges fast. He rushes to the fourth van in the convoy in a real hurry.
Eddie rushes to the back doors and knocks softly. A look of concern across his face.
“Come in!” A voice calls out from inside the van as the cameras pan closer and closer.
Eddie opens the two doors to find, Tommy Crimson, sitting inside. The Fury sits in front of four monitors. A large map of North and South America are plastered on the inside walls of the van. Red thumbtacks cover the southern portion of the maps. The thumbtacks travel the length of the map south into Mexico. A large circle of the tacks are around “Juarez”.
“We got the video, Tommy.” Eddie exclaims after shutting the two doors behind him.
Crimson’s forehead wrinkles slightly with real dread. This van was rented for a sole purpose. It is the one used to continue the search for Dawn Taylor. A twenty year search that Crimson has never stopped once.
The map are of areas where Dawn was spotted and each one leads to Juarez. Sketches are all over the place of what Dawn might look like in 2019. Tommy looks at Eddie before reaching out for the zip drive.
Eddie reaches it to Tommy but as Crimson attempts to pull it away, Murder stops him before asking, “Are you sure?”
Crimson jerks the zip drive from Eddie’s grips then takes a deep breath. The camera angle shifts to begin circling the two men to end up directly in front of them. The viewer can see the back of the monitor but not the screen. Crimson’s face is lit up by the screen while Eddie stands closely behind him. Tommy hooks in the drive then slowly pulls it up on the PC.
“One of the hackers found this on the internet and with facial reconstruction and all of the orphanage records… This is her, Tommy. This is Dawn Taylor. In this video, she would have been twenty three years of age.” Eddie nervously explains.
The camera pans closer to show the faces of Eddie and Crimson peering deeply into the screen.
“NO! PLEASE! DON’T” A woman on the screen screams out.
Eddie Murder covers his mouth in response to whatever the two men are seeing. The woman is being terrorized by an unknown assailant. Crimson looks at her face and notices the green eyes almost immediately. This is Dawn and he knows it. Her screams fill the van and spill to the outside, where all of Crimson’s employees stand. Some cry while others realize this twenty year search has found its end. The camera goes back to the inside of the van show the faces of Eddie and Tommy once more. They face the screen but Murder looks away suddenly! The gurgling of blood can be heard but not seen. Tommy’s face turns to stone as he can feel his heart turn even more cold.
Eddie pukes in the wastebasket away from Crimson while Tommy continues to watch the love of his life be murdered for rich men’s pleasure. A woman that was traded within sex slavery for her entire adult life, only for her life to be cut short ten years ago. Society failed her completely. Tommy’s spine tingles with anger like he’s never experienced yet his facial expression never changes.
The Fury looks up at the camera to wonder why he would allow this to even air. Why would he show this kind of vulnerability to foes in VPW. Like Meek Mill says, There’s levels to this shit. Tommy looks back at the screen to see Dawn bleed out, yet the audience can’t see but only hear the throes of death at a distance.
Employees outside the van weep openly while Tommy sheds not a single tear inside the van. A world so cruel it turned him cold long ago. Crimson pulls the zip drive out suddenly then spins in his chair to face Eddie Murder.
“Take this to the proper authorities with all the paperwork.” Tommy almost whispers.
“The guy responsible is dead.” Eddie informs Tommy before pointing at another monitor in the corner of the van. It streams the news in real time.
The Fury turns to face the monitor that shows Jeffrey Epstein. A sex slave trafficking billionaire that killed himself in custody twelve days ago.
Crimson looks at the monster who took Dawn with true malice in his heart. Violence is the only cure for the deep insecurity he feels for not saving his beloved. Tommy wants others to bleed for what society done to Dawn. Crimson realizes that Maurice’s life could well be in danger with this development. The screen begins to fade out slowly. The camera pans away to show The Fury tremble slightly from intense rage before glitching out completely.
