A little over a week ago, Tommy Crimson’s compound burned to the ground. A place where he created videos and other wrestling propaganda alongside his own television show, The Demon Archeologist.
An inverted cross glitches across a solid black screen. A terrified scream then can be heard before a wide overhead shot of what remains of FuryLand. The picture comes into focus to reveal the true extent of the damage. Only a few large pieces of rusty metal remain. The rest was burned then bulldozed over. The Seminoles demanded this land not be disturbed after the park was destroyed.
The overhead shot pulls in closer. Thousands of crosses litter the ground below. Brought from all over Florida and adjacent states by religious outfits from all over. Most claimed dreams brought them there to deposit their cross while others claim God himself led them there. The overhead camera picks up an unknown figure walking toward the crosses slowly.
Cameras from the treelines pick up the feed on the ground to reveal the individual to be Tommy Crimson. The Fury walks with real purpose toward the unknown. The camera show widens to reveal another figure amongst all the crosses. A little native american girl. She uses clobs of dirt and the crosses to build. Both of her eyes are milky white due to her blindness. Tommy continues walking only briefly looking over at the little girl and overall creepy unfolding scene.
Crimson walks directly towards a lone fence post. It stands directly behind where the park was located. Another nearby camera picks up the filming alongside Tommy to show the post. The fence has long rotted away but the locus post remains. A rope is draped around the bottom of it near the ground. The old fence post is covered in dried blood as is the rope and ground below. Tommy squats near it as the camera draws in closer.
The Fury studies the post. He never intended to return back to this place but this piece of insignificant wood has brought him here once more. A car comes flying down the old road that led to the park. The opening has tripled in size after trees near and inside the park were also set ablaze. The black lincoln pulls up right alongside Crimson before stopping. Dust flies as the driver side door gets flung open suddenly. Tommy peers over at the car and realizes the passenger stayed in the car. The driver is Crimson’s longtime lawyer, Richard Reece.
Reece circles the car quickly and comes up alongside Tommy, who remains squatting in front of the fence post.
“This is where it happened, Tommy.” Reece declares.
Crimson sighs at the realization of what happened here may cost him everything. Tommy looks over at Richard to reply, “What happened?”
Richard gulps a bit to stifle the dread buried deep within. He then wipes his forehead briefly before replying, “You pushed Eddie away from the chopper and these native american men caught him…”
Tommy slowly turns his head away from Richard.
“Then?” Crimson responds with a question.
“Four to five of these men beat Eddie Murder until he was completely unconcious. They then tied him to this fence post and continued to beat him. Eddie may never wake up out of the coma. Those men believed they killed Murder before they left here.” Richard reluctantly reveals.
Tommy stands up to brush the dust off his pants before turning to face his lawyer.
“So Netflix killed our show? A show that has been very successful thus far?” Crimson asks Richard point blank.
Reece looks away but Tommy takes hold of him by his sports jacket in both hands! He pulls Richard close.
“Look at me, goddamnit!” This is my life!” The Fury screams out.
“Netflix will buy out the rest of your contract and you will retain the rights to The Demon Archeologist. The whole world saw you leave Eddie here to be nearly killed. That kind of shit leaves a sour taste in peoples mouths.” Richard desperately explains.
Crimson releases his hold to drop Reece. Tommy then kicks the fence post with all he’s got! The post slumps a bit but otherwise still stands.
The passenger side door suddenly swings open. Richard and Tommy both swing around to face the car. Crimson’s face turns to shock when he realizes who his lawyers passenger was. River Echo, the man who had more to do with his compound burning than anyone else. The chief of the seminole tribe that beat the fire department to burning down FuryLand.
“Mr. Crimson.” Echo announces as he approaches the two men.
“I should fuck you up. Then leave you here to rot alongside that little blind bitch back there.” Tommy spews real ire at Echo.
“That little girl is spelling out your future for you, Tommy. Her name is Walks with Truth and she is wise beyond her years. She can see the future with no sight.” River corrects Crimson.
Tommy turns to see the little girl in the distance, still hard at work. Walks with Truth continues to create something that she is unable to see. She uses her hands to mold her art. Crimson turns back toward Echo and Reece.
“What do you want?” Tommy directly asks River.
Echo turns away from Crimson with an expression of concern painted across his face.
“I think, I owe you.” Echo reveals.
The Fury leans in closer to reply, “I’m listening.”
“My people own land all over the state of Florida and our casinos have been lucrative for all of us. Recently, I bought an abandoned mall that is in pristine shape. It has enough room to film there and even has a theatre for you to review anything you create.” Echo explains with a bit of shade in his tone.
“What does that have to do with me?” Crimson replies becoming more irritated with each passing moment.
“I want to give you this for all the damage that I have caused. The five men who attacked your colleague have disappeared. I did not order that nor did anyone. Still, it happened on my watch. So… I just gave your lawyer here the deed to that mall. It closed in the late nineties but has been kept up. It’s also in a more secluded area like I know you appreciate. I also brought Walks with Truth to see what the future holds for you, Tommy.” Echo finishes before looking back over at his granddaughter, a fact still unknown to Crimson.
Tommy spins around to see Richard holding out the deed at him. Crimson takes it, then carefully folds it up. He tucks it away in his back pocket before turning to wink at River Echo.
“I also have other news.” Richard announces out of the cameras shot.
Crimson turns slowly to face his lawyer, who continues.
“Netflix dropped you, yes. But.. We have another offer.” Richard announces proudly.
Crimson leans in closer, “Who?”
“The Battleground Network wants to do ten episodes to start and I understand you have six already filmed, correct?” Richard asks.
“That’s right.” Crimson replies immediately.
“Your show will be on the network right alongside Valor and 4CW’s flag ship shows. This weekend, you have been invited to the UGP fights. There, you will be able to work out this contract and begin putting shows on the network immediately.” Reece reveals further with an accomplished expression now.
A sly grin crosses the face of The Fury briefly. He turns to face away from the fence post, where his friend nearly died a week prior. Tommy doesn’t speak for a few moments, allowing himself to process all of this information. Finally he speaks with his back still turned to both men.
“I will sign that contract. Then, I will scour the earth for evil relics while still wrestling at a top level in Valor. It’s time that I become one of the biggest stars in this business again. The Demon Archeologist will thrive on the Battleground Network just as Blitz has.” Crimson exclaims with real confidence.
Tommy continues to watch Walks with Truth. Suddenly, she stops. The little girl then walks toward the three men with dirt on her face and hands. Walks with Truth approaches Crimson directly. Both of her eyes are milky white with blindness but she looks up at him.
“I’ve finished.” Walks with Truth announces to The Fury.
Crimson continues to look at the large pile of crosses she has stacked and glued together with Florida mud.
“I will cut Fury Studios staff in half. I only need five to six employees if Battleground Network is going to back me. I can do anything I want and there is really nothing anyone that I know of that can stop me now.” Tommy continues while still staring out at what Echo’s granddaughter created.
Crimson spins around to look at the ashes. The remains of what stood here will be forgotten in time but Tommy will always remember the work he did here. The art he created for a world not always prepared for his vision.
“I had begun to lose confidence. I wondered how all of this would pan out or if I could get back all that was lost. Murder may die but I will make sure that his death will not go in vain. I will collect off that policy that I took out on him months ago.” Crimson reveals a secret of his own.
River Echo and Richard Reece both appear shocked by this horrific revelation.
Tommy slowly turns to face both men once more.
“See, I pushed him away from the chopper for this very reason. I saw those Native American men and knew they were pissed. I wanted them to kill Eddie in reality, so that I could use his death to rebuild my company. That plan obviously backfired but the weakness that is human pity did not. I never do anything without a purpose.” The Fury finishes in an almost whisper to the two men before turning to walk away.
Crimson walks toward what Walks with Truth was creating when he arrived. Reece and Echo stand with both their mouths agape from complete shock. Tommy grins slightly as he struts away from the trio.
“I’ve still got it.” Crimson whispers to himself.
Tommy approaches the large circular creation of Walks with Truth. The Fury walks around the perimeter of her creation slowly to study it. Crimson’s interest has peaked at what she was doing here. A single low flying drone hovers close to Tommy.
The opening chords to “37 Stitches” by Drowning Pool begins to play. Crimson continues to walk around the circle of crosses and mud. The song begins to pick up while the drone slowly begins to lift up into the air.
Drowning Pool plays over the wide shot as the scene below turns to black and white. Crimson studies Walks with Truth’s creation as the drone slowly reveals what it is from above. The Battleground Network logo can be seen from above. The little girl created it with the crosses brought from religious groups from all over and the mud. Thousands of crosses remain even with all that she used to create the logo. The overhead shot glitches suddenly to an inverted cross. It continues to flash and glitch as River Echo’s words are replayed over the song…
“That little girl is spelling out your future for you…”
