Cryonics Institute
Clinton Township, Michigan 10/11/2019
6:31 am
The Cryonics Institute comes into focus from overhead. It then is shown from various camera shots from different angles that glitch across the screen. This business deals in vague promises of immortality. It was founded in 1976 by the self proclaimed father of cryonics, Robert Ettinger.
The shot widens to reveal a solid black cadillac whip into the empty parking lot adjacent to the lab. The car pulls up close to the building, directly beneath a dimly lit street lamp. The vehicle comes to a stop then the driver shifts it into park. The passenger side door opens up and an unknown individual exits. The driver also departs on the opposite side simultaneously.
The two unknown individuals then walk in the darkness of the early morning toward the Cryonics Institute entrance. The doors open up as the two men approach to reveal a flamboyant individual that is wearing a solid white lab coat. “Dr. Watts” is written on the laminated security tag attached to the front pocket of his coat.
“Welcome!” Dr. Watts calls out at the two unknown individuals as they approach.
A hidden camera across the street films the unfolding scene. The two individuals reach the light above the front door to be revealed at last. Tommy Crimson and Eddie Murder stand at the door facing Dr. Watts now.
“Cut the shit, Seymore. I want to see her.” Crimson replies.
Dr. Seymore Watts nods then turns to walk back into the building. Murder and Crimson follow closely behind. The doctor leads the men through the reception area and toward the laboratory in the back. The cameras in the lab have been turned off for this unsanctioned early visit. A van across the street has already stolen the feed from the institutes private network to stream world wide.
“That go fund me page that you set up will take care of all the bills for months in advance.” The doctor announces while continuing to lead the two men down a long dark hallway.
The entire building has cameras in every corner. Eddie notices this almost immediately while Crimson walks with real purpose almost as if he has been waiting for this day for a lifetime.
“The Mexican Government has recovered most of her parts. She was cut into pieces after the smut film then distributed all over the city of Juarez. We were able to obtain 73 percent of one, Dawn Taylor. These remains were found after she was murdered then buried outside Juarez for ten years. There’s not much left.” Dr. Watts further explains.
Dr. Watts pushes open two swinging doors that lead into the lab. Large steel vats sit in straight lines all over the large room. Loved ones frozen in hopes that future scientists can cure whatever affliction the departed succumbed to.
“We have you set up in a room in the very back just as you wished, Mr. Crimson.” Dr. Watts reveals.
Eddie and Tommy both peer out at the rows upon rows of the cryopreserved. The large cryostats can hold up to six bodies. Ideally, cryopreservation begins within minutes of death. Crimson’s long lost love, Dawn Taylor, is not even a complete corpse. Rules were bent in the name of a celebrity and potential investor, The Fury.
The men exit the large lab then take a sharp turn down yet another dark hallway. Dr. Watts comes to a complete stop in front of a door marked simply, “Dawn”.
The doctor unlocks the door quickly with a keycard. The three men then enter the small room. Dr. Watts flips a switch on the wall to reveal a much smaller vat in the center of the smallest room in the entire building.
The room has a table in the far corner that has a record player sitting on it. A bent and mangled folding chair sits next to the vat. The back has been signed by Tommy and Kristopher Ryans, a major foe from Crimson’s past. The chair appears wrecked but still works fine for sitting.
“We made an exception here. Most of the time people must pay for all of this by signing over their possessions to us. So when they die we can sell that and make three times what the initial charge was. It’s brilliant but this go fund me stuff works, too. “ The Doctor condescendingly proclaims.
Crimson approaches the large vat with widening eyes. He looks at it with an expression of real endearment. Tommy walks over to the folding chair from one of his most famous matches to take a seat slowly. He looks upon the vat to remember Dawn before she was pieces in a steel tube.
Tommy begins to speak while sitting in the chair. Dr. Watts and Eddie Murder stand behind him.
“Seymore… You are a goddamn conman. You sell immortality to those who fear death most. I can respect that particular kind of scheming. Reanimation, however, will never be an actual possibility in our lifetime.” The Fury exclaims from the chair.
Murder takes hold of the doctor and whispers, “Tommy needs some time alone to piece this together.”
The doctor cracks a grin with how Eddie worded that statement before turning toward the door. Both men exit in order to leave Crimson all alone with the frozen pieces of his long lost love. The door slams shut to bang throughout.
Tommy looks at the steel vat with real wonder in his brown eyes. Crimson realizes the vitrification process most likely did not work in Dawn’s case. The cryopreserving agents would not have worked on flesh that was mostly rotten and in many pieces. The body then would have been cooled to 196 °C over a two day period in a computer controlled chamber, before being stored inside this vat in liquid nitrogen.
Crimson knows that bringing her back to life will never happen. Tommy just wants to keep the pieces and it’s illegal to do this in a deep freezer, so he came here. He also froze his DNA as well in hopes that Dawn will be brought back some day. A letter Crimson has left behind, explains his genius and why she would want to use his DNA to produce offspring. The letter is simply a two page narcissistic sociopathic rant, but Dawn always admired that about Tommy.
“I am going to keep you.” The Fury whispers at the vat.
“This was all done for nefarious purposes. Sure, maybe they will bring you back to life. Then, they can inject you with my seed to create another legendary genius. Mostly, it’s selfish reasons that brings us here. I simply can’t let you go so I decided to keep what’s left.” Crimson reveals while being filmed from two different corners of the room.
The cameras have the ability to scan the room from both corners, perched high near the ceiling.
Tommy’s sick and twisted reasoning for all of this is strictly for moments exactly like this. He wants to be able to come here and talk to the pieces of Dawn anytime that he desires. Organized religion of any kind is considered total nonsense by The Fury. The inverted cross is meant to frighten slash mark The Fury’s territory more than being some sort of religious symbol, to clarify.
This room will be a space where Crimson can soul search to work out any internal issues.
“I became a force in the wrestling business. I’ve worked my way from the bottom to become one of the best alive. I excel.” Crimson brags in a conceited tone.
Tommy looks over to see the record player sitting on the table. He requested it because of Dawn’s love of music. Only one record was needed, Patsy Cline's Greatest Hits. Crimson stands up out of the mangled chair to make his way toward the table in the corner.
The Fury stops as he reaches the table to peer down at the single record that lies atop the player.
“I found Patsy for you. Oh, how you loved that dead whore so. Everytime we would steal a tape player, you just had to steal Pasty’s tape to go with it.” Tommy recalls while staring down at the cover of the old record.
Crimson picks up the record in both hands. He continues to glare at the cover to remember his childhood with Dawn.
“I never dreamed this would have turned out the way that it has. Me, standing here, while you are frozen pieces in a steel tube. I mean, this is fucked.” Crimson gasps out in near disbelief.
Tommy slowly retrieves the record from its sleeve. He looks down on the pristine record as it slides out. Crimson then places the record down on the player, but stops short of placing the needle on the vinyl before spinning around to face the steel vat once more.
“I hope you haunt these halls, Dawn. I need something to believe in besides myself. The hope of reanimating a loved one never works out in the movies. They always come back wanting to murder. Which is cool. I’d take that version.” Tommy jokes before turning back around to face the player again.
Crimson slowly takes hold of the needle after switching the player on. The Patsy Cline record begins to spin.
“Give me a sign, Dawn.” The Fury whispers.
Tommy drops the needle on the outer edge to begin playing the record. A scratchy pitch can be heard through the speaker leading Tommy to adjust the tone on the player. Cline’s timeless voice begins to fill the small room. A sly grin crosses Crimson’s face at the sound of Dawn’s favorite Patsy song, “I Fall to Pieces”.
The song begins to play. Tommy makes his way back over to the chair to take a seat. He stares at the vat again while the music echoes throughout the small room. Crimson wrestles with reality inside his head. He needs to mourn fast because his biggest match in two years is right around the corner.
Dealing with death can cause the strongest and most spirited men to crumble.. A moment of weakness that creates vulnerabilities that could linger a lifetime. Tommy must completely emotionally detach.
The chorus of the song begins but stops dead suddenly! Crimson looks over at the record player to see it stuck.
“Pieces.” The record player repeats over and over. Stuck in place.
Tommy does not attempt to fix the records position but rather watch it stick.
“Pieces.” The speakers continue to blurt out.
A grin crosses Crimson’s face as he realizes this may the sign he was looking for.
“Pieces.”
Tommy stands up out of the chair suddenly. He walks over to the door of the small room to push it open. Murder and Dr. Watts peer inside the room to hear the record skipping to repeat, “Pieces”. An expression of true horror crosses the face of both simultaneously.
Crimson takes off down the hallway, full of confidence. Tommy believes everything is coming together for him at the perfect time. Eddie hurries to catch up while The Fury struts down the hallway. Daylight creeps through the windows as the sun rises in the distance.
The stolen security video footage is being streamed to the internet in real time. Fury Studios distributes the video through the brand new Valor Pro website. Tommy continues to walk toward the entrance from which he first came in. Eddie catches up with The Fury inside the large lab.
“What are you going to do now!?” Murder asks with real curiosity.
Crimson stops dead in his tracks. He swings around to face Eddie directly.
“Succeed.” Crimson replies with pure confidence.
