Kowloon sits majestically on the fine grandiose leather couch as if his golden mane of hair has a golden crown adorned on top of it. He counts a large sum of yen in his hands while holding court in the lobby of a hotel nearby the site of the great culling of the petty criminals. The bald-headed, grey uniform-clad initiates bring the next culprits up to him. This more formal method of judgment proved to be a success after more than a few city officials complained about the mass beatings. Kowloon puts the money away and almost brakes his regal countenance when a small beagle walks up between the two men.
“What seems to be the issue here?”
The men don’t speak so the initiate who brought them in hands Kowloon a document.
“Ah, I see, you have each been stealing this dog from each other multiple times causing a headache for the local populace and police force. You will pay for this or suffer.”
The initiate also hands him two envelopes with money inside, but Kowloon isn’t satisfied.
“This is disappointing. You won’t learn from this. How about this stop? Whose dog was it first?”
The men start yelling trying to get their words in over the other until Kowloon stops them.
“Shut it! Ok… I have a solution! Let’s have a contest. Each of you will grab the front paws and the back paws and pull. The one who grabs the dog over to their side of my massive chest wins the dog forever!”
The two men seem reluctant, but go along with the contest. They grab the little dog and pull. Kowloon waits for the obvious conclusion and for the true owner to reveal himself but the men just keep pulling. He finally hears a yelp from the dog and grabs it from them.
“What in the hell is the matter with you? One of you is supposed to have more compassion for the dog! That is the true owner… Hey. Look at this. I am the true owner.”
He laughs out loud and the men look at each other sourly. Kowloon addresses the initiates.
“Let this be a lesson. It doesn’t matter the crime. Big or small, a criminal is always a criminal. Let’s show these men what the Emperor’s mercy could not. Give them the money back and beat them up. Beat them all up. This is over. And make it quick. We move to the next town tonight.”
A sense of dread falls over the hotel lobby as the initiates turn on the crowd and start to fight with them. Kowloon cuddles with the dog and sits back on his rugged, but plush, throne.
