This may come as a surprise to some, and to others it’s just efedding, but 7 Pillars was our last hurrah. Schedules have changed, life has intervened, and Hannah and I feel that this is the best time to put an end to what has been an amazing run for Valor Pro. We lasted over a year, which for us is an accomplishment in its own right. We’ve seen folks come and go, and in some cases come back again, and in each case it’s been a delight.
The facts are thus; I(Press) don’t think I can keep up with the quality of shows, and while to some they would say just go to nothing but a summary format to keep the place open, I simply can not do that. I truly believe that the matches and the style of show we have has had a huge impact on generating buzz for the fed, and giving people who RP for us less than the best just isn’t an option. If I can’t run at peak efficiency, then I shouldn’t run at all.
Subsequently, Hannah has a new work schedule. That puts a huge strain on her time and would make things difficult moving forward. She handles all the site updates, graphics, and the overall shouting of the shows, along with show developments. I can’t do this without her, and don’t want to. She started this thing, and by the second show asked me to join. This is really her fed as much as it is mine, and together we came to the decision. Not to mention, over a year of consistent shows, 24 two week cycles, I am burned out.
A word from Press; There are some things I would have liked to have seen, some questions answered. What would Valor be like under an Apex title reign from Danny Rizzo? Brodie/Krahe part 2? Munin and The Zombie Clan? The Zombie Clan under the mantle of Kimitsu? What will happen in the drama between Kaven/Danny/Leela? Willy Tommy Crimson continue to run through the competition, and who would stop him? Will Katya Djurdjevic manage to spring back and vindicate her claims to be the Greatest Warrior That Ever Was? Loads more, but I digress I’m getting burned out even writing this.
A few things I absolutely loved about this fed; Watching Danny Rizzo, a character that started in a pizza joint and went all the way to become one of the top stars in Valor. We’ve literally had the chance to watch Danny grow up, starting as a baby face, and ending as the top heel.
You can’t really talk about impact if you don’t talk about The Catalyst. For some of you, the character Zachariah Krahe is a return but you haven’t had interactions with that character or handler. For others, the handler earned that name because of how many storylines, interactions, and feuds they were at the center of. At one time, Krahe was at the top of the Valor Rankings, which is comprised of factors such as wins, appearances(segments), and losses. I’m sure if given more time, he’d be right back at the top.
That being said, Brodie/Indi is another mainstay of the promotion. All of the character work that’s went into Brodie has been a dual effort of me making her a badass, and the handler backing that up with her work. I’m truly impressed by the writing style that has always kept me engaged as a reader.
The Zombie Clan. I can boast that we are the first fed that has had almost the entire Zombie roster on their show. With Kimitsu’s arrival at 7 Pillars, the stable is complete. I have thrown so many challenges Zombie’s way, and he is one of the best people to work with because he will work with anyone. He’ll put you over. He’ll put you under. And at the end of the day can produce a massive amount of work in a short period of time.
If The Fury, Tommy Crimson, hadn’t come along, the fed would have closed shop months ago. He has consistently put up the max of two RP’s, a CD(sometimes two), Segments, and written two quality matches for the show since before his arrival. My man, you saved this place from an early retirement, and I thank you.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Cosmo Cooper. Love or hate him, Jon represented this place in multiple feds and generated buzz that I know caused some folks to join just to try and face him. At the end of the day he was a consistent champion and his wins weren’t just cause of his twitter activity, but because when it was championship time he came with it.
In the same vein, Brennan Devlin was the perfect foil to anyone. One of the most unique shit talkers I’ve ever seen, and despite never winning the Apex, a handler that I knew was always going to be a threat to anyone who faced him. He can finally say that he fucked this fed to death.
Zack Fantana is a superstar. I have always tried to write him like that. He can make comedy out of his work effortlessly while still keeping it grounded to his opponent and the fed. He and Benny coming back as Dead End Friends has been a pleasure, and it’s great to see these two bored assholes finding success. Especially when we all thought Fern was dead.
Chris Callum came in like a whirlwind. He had a ready made story with Cosmo, but then went on to write some genius stuff. He’s a fed head who understand very much the strategies of how to frame his work so that it can fit into wrestling storylines. It was a pleasure to watch that cerebral style put him at the top of our roster.
Cross Recoba had his moments. He was the second UnYielding champion after paying Krahe off. He put out a hit list that resulted in some hilarious situations and serious consequences. He held the tag belts in Rekota, and was one of the few who actually pinned Cosmo Cooper in a one on one situation. If he could show up consistently, he could be a top dog.
To those I didn’t mention, it’s not personal, this is just getting long winded and I already mentioned I was burned out. Some honorable mentions; Vannah White, Neo Tokyo, Spiral, Ace Devereux, Moxie James, Katya Djurdjevic, Roxi Johnson, and one Davy Blossom. If you never saw his work, you should find it in the archive. It’s hilarious.
To those who left pissy, upset, jaded, or otherwise disappointed. In the words of Jim Cornette, “Thank You, Fuck You, and Good Night!”
On a side note; I’m going to take a break, but will soon be looking to get back into the handler pool. Meaning I’ll be RPing somewhere. I don’t want any of you mooks seeing me around and being like...that asshole. Writing a couple of 2k promos is nothing in comparison to a 39k show. So maybe we’ll see one another again on the flipside. Thank you all and keep in touch.
